The 84-mile trip from Sand Wash to Swasey's Rapid offers outstanding scenery, interesting geologic formations, evidence of prehistoric and historic human activity, and whitewater opportunities.

This segment of the Green River, from Coal Creek to Nefertiti Rapid, is a designated Wild River included in the National WIld and Scenic Rivers System and is run as part of the Sand Wash to Swasey's Rapid section.

A permit is required year round for floating the Desolation Gray Canyons section of the Green River. (BLM)
